India Celebrates Army Day Honouring Courage, Sacrifice and National Security

New Delhi India (UNA) : celebrated Army Day today, paying tribute to the unwavering courage, discipline and dedication of the Indian Army, which stands as a pillar of national security and unity. Observed every year on January 15, Army Day marks the historic moment in 1949 when General K M Cariappa took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, symbolising India’s military sovereignty after independence.

On this occasion, ceremonies and commemorative events were organised across the country to honour soldiers who serve in extremely challenging conditions, from icy Himalayan heights to dense jungles and vast desert borders. Army Day is not only a celebration of military strength but also a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by thousands of soldiers who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The Indian Army continues to play a vital role beyond guarding borders. It actively supports civil authorities during natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and cyclones, providing rescue, relief and rehabilitation assistance. Over the years, the Army has also focused on modernisation by adopting advanced technology, strengthening defence infrastructure and enhancing training systems to address emerging security challenges.

Army Day serves as an inspiration for the younger generation, highlighting values such as discipline, courage, integrity and selfless service to the nation. Parades, exhibitions and award ceremonies held on this day showcase the professionalism, preparedness and operational readiness of the force, while gallantry awards recognise acts of exceptional bravery and dedication.

As the nation marks Army Day, citizens across India express gratitude to soldiers and their families, acknowledging the silent sacrifices made far from home. The observance reinforces national pride and respect for those who tirelessly safeguard India’s freedom, sovereignty and democratic values.
