A tragic road accident took place on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway early Monday morning as a private sleeper bus collided with a stationary truck. The incident, which occurred under a thick blanket of fog, resulted in the death of one individual on the spot, while several other passengers sustained injuries. Local authorities and emergency response teams reached the site immediately to conduct rescue operations and transport the injured to the nearest medical facility for urgent treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the collision was primarily caused by extremely low visibility, which has dropped to near-zero levels across North India due to a persistent cold wave. The sleeper bus, which was reportedly carrying passengers toward Jaipur, was unable to detect the truck on the highway in time to avert the crash. The impact was severe enough to damage the front section of the bus significantly, trapping several passengers inside before they were extricated by rescue workers.
The impact of the dense fog has been a major concern for highway authorities over the last 48 hours, leading to multiple minor and major pile-ups on high-speed corridors. Following the accident, traffic on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was temporarily diverted to clear the debris and ensure the safety of other commuters. Highway patrol teams have issued a fresh advisory urging drivers to maintain low speeds, use fog lights, and avoid stopping on the main carriageway during periods of high condensation.
Road safety experts and regional administrators are reviewing the safety protocols for heavy vehicles during the peak winter season. The frequency of such mishaps on expressways has reignited the debate over the implementation of advanced fog-warning systems and better lighting on critical stretches. As the cold wave is expected to continue for the next few days, police personnel have been deployed at major entry and exit points to monitor vehicle speeds and provide real-time weather updates to long-distance travelers.
