Mathura, Uttar Pradesh (UNA) :
A planned New Year’s Eve programme in Mathura featuring Bollywood actor Sunny Leone has been cancelled following protests from saints and religious groups. The event, which was to include Leone performing as a DJ, was scheduled for January 1 in a local venue.
Religious leaders expressed that hosting a high-energy entertainment show in Mathura, a city revered as Lord Krishna’s birthplace, was inappropriate. They argued that such events could clash with the town’s spiritual character and traditions. Several groups formally requested the administration to stop the programme.
In response to the objections and to respect local sentiments, organisers decided to call off the show and began issuing refunds for tickets already sold. Some residents and leaders welcomed the decision, saying it preserved the religious and cultural atmosphere of the region.
For everyday citizens, this situation highlights the influence of community and cultural sensitivities on public events, especially in spiritually significant locations. Organisers have indicated they will take local sentiments into account for planning future events.
