Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra (UNA) :
Navi Mumbai International Airport has handled more than 26,000 passengers in just five days after the start of scheduled commercial operations, marking a strong beginning for the newly opened airport serving the Mumbai region.
Passenger movement increased steadily during the initial days, with the highest footfall recorded over the weekend. On peak days, the airport witnessed over 5,500 travellers, indicating rising acceptance among both business and leisure passengers.
For common travellers, the new airport brings clear advantages. Residents of Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Thane and nearby areas now have a closer and less crowded option for air travel. This is expected to reduce pressure on the existing Mumbai airport and offer smoother check-in and boarding experiences.
Commercial flights began operations on 25 December, connecting the airport to several major Indian cities. Airlines have gradually increased services based on passenger response during the opening phase.
Airport authorities have stated that additional routes and higher flight frequency will be introduced in stages. The expansion aims to improve regional connectivity, ease congestion at older airports, and provide a more convenient travel experience for passengers across Maharashtra in the coming period.
